The ROG Xbox Ally X20 goes on sale today for $1,299, and ASUS is pitching it as a 20th-anniversary love letter to the Republic of Gamers brand. ASUS confirmed availability in a press release this morning, and in the US you can buy it from the ASUS Store and Best Buy.
Price and the big bundle
The handheld alone is $1,299. There is also a $2,499 bundle that adds a pair of ROG XREAL R1 Edition 20 Gaming AR Glasses, a custom dbrand Killswitch case with an exclusive skin and stick caps, and a Pelican Protector Case with room for everything. ASUS sold the glasses on their own for $799 when preorders opened in August.

The rest of the lineup is not going anywhere. The ROG Xbox Ally stays at $599 and the ROG Xbox Ally X stays at $999, so the X20 sits on top as a $300 step up from the Ally X.
What the extra $300 buys
Under the hood, not much changes. ASUS lists the same AMD Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, 1TB SSD and 80Wh battery on both the X20 and the Ally X. If you want more raw performance, this is not where you get it.
The screen is the headline. The Ally X uses a 7-inch IPS-level panel rated at 500 nits with FreeSync Premium. The X20 moves to a 7.4-inch OLED that ASUS calls the Nebula HDR Display, still 1080p and 120Hz, but with 1400 nits of peak HDR brightness, DisplayHDR True Black 1400 certification, Dolby Vision and FreeSync Premium Pro with VRR from 30Hz to 120Hz. ASUS also added two HDR modes, Native for accurate color and Vivid for extra punch.
The controls get real attention too:
- TMR sticks: magnetic sensors built to cut down on stick drift, with a tight 3% dead zone.
- Transforming D-pad: switches between 4-way and 8-way movement without tools.
- Flush face buttons: they sit level with the shell when fully pressed and need less force to actuate.
- Grips and triggers: new rubberized grips plus impulse triggers for haptic feedback.
ASUS also reworked the cooling. Air now flows along three paths, behind the OLED panel, across the heatsink fins and straight to the processor, and new larger fans move 20% more air. The goal is lower internal temperatures and grips that stay comfortable over long sessions.

The look
The X20 comes in a translucent black shell with a gold internal frame peeking through, a nod to the see-through hardware of the early 2000s. It marks 20 years since ROG launched in 2006, and it is clearly built to be a collector piece as much as a handheld.
Software updates
Armoury Crate Special Edition gets a refresh alongside the launch. A new Travel Mode caps charging at 65W so the handheld plays nicer with seat outlets on planes and trains, and it turns on automatically with Airplane Mode. The Command Center, Library and Action buttons can now be remapped, Default Game Profile 2.0 saves your power settings per game in one click, and Aura lighting adds Reactive and Immersion modes that light up based on stick direction or in-game sound. ASUS is also adding an opt-in preview channel for people who want new features early.

It runs Windows 11 Home, so your PC library comes along. If you are building one, GOG is our first stop for DRM-free copies you keep, with Steam right behind it.
If you already own an Ally X, the X20 is mostly a better screen, nicer controls and a lot of style for $300. If you were waiting for an OLED Ally before jumping in, this is the one to look at.
