Cody and May key art for It Takes Two

It Takes Two Switch 2 is out now, with a free upgrade for most Switch owners, Friend’s Pass, and cross-play on Hazelight’s co-op Game of the Year adventure. EA, Hazelight, and Turn Me Up Games put it out on October 15 in most regions (October 16 in Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea).

What is new on Switch 2

Docked play targets 1080p at 60 frames per second, even on a 4K TV. EA also calls out higher-resolution textures, a better lighting pass, richer effects, and faster load times than the original Switch build. Local GameShare still lets a Switch 2 host pull in an original Switch player in the same room.

Friend’s Pass and cross-play

Friend’s Pass still means one person buys the game and invites a friend who only needs the free Friend’s Pass download. On Switch 2 you can also cross-play with friends on PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 5. Online sessions need Nintendo Switch Online on the Nintendo side (and the usual online subs on the other platforms).

Price and the free upgrade

MSRP is $39.99. If you already own It Takes Two on Switch on the same Nintendo Account, EA says the Switch 2 upgrade is free in most regions (Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, and Taiwan are excluded). Grab the upgrade from the eShop or the in-game offer screen on Switch 2.

It is still a pure co-op game about fixing a marriage while a sentient book ruins your afternoon, and Switch 2 is finally a clean place to play it docked or on the train without dragging a second console.
