RuneScape Reignited is cancelled. Jagex announced the fresh-start character mode at RuneFest less than two weeks ago with a December 2 launch, and on October 15 Mod Ryan posted a video saying the studio “missed the mark” and won’t move forward with it.
Why it got pulled
Reignited was supposed to be a new fresh-start character type, with limits on how those characters could mix with existing ones and its own separate membership. Longtime players pushed back hard. In an October 6 post, Jagex listed what it was hearing: veterans felt like their characters would stop mattering, the playerbase would split, the limits on how veteran and Reignited characters could interact felt bad, and paying for a second membership didn’t sit right.
At that point Jagex said it was re-evaluating. Mod Ryan’s explanation for the final call is blunt: “the last time we didn’t listen to player feedback, combat changed forever. And it has taken us over a decade to recover from that.”
He added that Jagex still wants RuneScape to grow with returning and new players, “but never at the expense of our existing community.”
What still happens on December 2
The date isn’t going away, just the separate character type. December 2 still brings the new Adventure Guide and the first part of the Remastered Journey, along with what Mod Ryan called “a host of other improvements.”
The free members trial is still happening too. From December 2 to December 12, any new character, or any existing character that hasn’t had membership since June 2, can play on members worlds and access members content for free. Old School RuneScape members worlds aren’t part of it. Everyone plays in the same worlds, which Mod Ryan summed up as “no split worlds.”
The roadmap and Plugins
The 2027 roadmap Jagex showed at RuneFest is unchanged. That’s the Hoard of Dragons, City of Gnomes, and Secrets of Karamja arcs, a proper Grandmaster quest, and an Agility rework, plus more of the Road to Restoration changes the team has been making this year. Mod Ryan also confirmed RuneScape’s Plugins feature launches Monday, October 19, with more details that day.
RuneScape is free to start on PC through Steam and Jagex’s own launcher, and on mobile. If Reignited was your reason to come back, December 2 is still the day to do it, just on a normal character this time.
