An adventuring party fights in the ruins of Myth Drannor in Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor

Pool of Radiance: Ruins of Myth Drannor lands on GOG and Steam on November 6, and it’s the first time the 2001 Dungeons & Dragons RPG has ever been sold digitally. Until now, playing Stormfront Studios’ dungeon crawl meant hunting down the original discs and coaxing them onto a modern PC. SNEG, working with Wizards of the Coast, has patched it up for current machines and lists it at $19.99 in press materials (store pages still show Coming Soon with no price). Start on GOG if you want the DRM-free build, or grab it on Steam.

4K, a Reworked Camera and an Optional Legacy Mode

SNEG’s enhancements, confirmed on Steam and in the publisher’s Games Press / Steam news copy:

  1. Widescreen support up to 4K, with upscaled backgrounds.
  2. Full controller support, including DualShock and DualSense on Steam.
  3. A reworked camera.
  4. A new action bar and redesigned tooltips.
  5. Adjustable combat animation speed.
  6. Numerous bug fixes.

Purists get an exit. An optional Legacy mode keeps the original look and behavior, and you can pick how much of the enhancement package you want switched on. On Steam it also picks up achievements and cloud saves.

Six-Person Parties Under D&D 3rd Edition Rules

The rules haven’t been touched. Ruins of Myth Drannor runs on Dungeons & Dragons 3rd Edition, with a party of up to six: you create four and recruit two along the way. Characters top out at level 16, spellcasters reach 8th-level spells from a pool of more than 90, and an optional turn timer keeps fights moving if you want it. SNEG puts the full run at more than 100 hours, so this is a long weekend at minimum.

Your Demo Save Carries Into the Full Game

If you already tried the free demo, which covers the opening location, that time counts. Demo progress carries over into the full release, and SNEG patched the demo on October 30 ahead of launch. This is the second SNEG rescue we’ve covered in two weeks, after Ecstatica and Ecstatica II.

A 1.8 GHz CPU and 4 GB of RAM Will Run It

Steam lists a single minimum tier (no recommended column), and it’s about as gentle as PC requirements get. GOG currently shows a lighter Coming Soon card (2 GB RAM / 1 GB storage) that may update at unlock.

FieldMinimum
OSWindows 10/11 (64-bit)
Processor1.8 GHz
Memory4 GB RAM
GraphicsDirectX 9.0c compatible
DirectXVersion 11
Storage4 GB

It’s PC only, with no console versions announced. Expect blood with your fireballs; the store page flags violence and blood.

Myth Drannor has waited a quarter century for a proper second shot, and this time the party gets to start on a controller in 4K.
