Coen walks through a sunny medieval market street in The Blood of Dawnwalker

The Blood of Dawnwalker Update 1.1 is planned for this week, and it’s a big one: a full ability respec, a new Story difficulty, larger subtitles and, yes, animal petting. Rebel Wolves shared the highlights on the official Dawnwalker X account on Friday and says the patch carries more than 1,100 improvements and fixes on top of the headline features.

Respec without restarting

The biggest addition is the Draught of Mind Rebirth. Drink it and Coen forgets every Swordmastery, Witchcraft and Vampirism ability he’s learned, and you get to put that time back into a different set of skills. If you’ve been stuck with a build that isn’t clicking, or you just want to try a different mix of powers, you no longer need a fresh save to do it.

A gentler Story mode and better subtitles

Difficulty gets a shake-up. The current easiest setting, Story, is being renamed Forgiving, and a brand-new Story mode sits below it with extra combat assist. That’s good news if the directional combat has been the thing keeping you from finishing the game. Subtitles are getting more options too, with a larger font size and the option to turn on subtitles for all dialogue lines.

And the petting. You can now stop and give the local animals some attention, and the studio’s own description is three words long: “Directional. Animal. Petting.”

Combat, camera and FrameGen fixes

The rest of the list is the stuff that makes the game feel better minute to minute. Combat animations and the camera have been adjusted, and targeting, locking onto and disengaging from enemies all work better. Shadowstep and Planeshift are more responsive when you aim them at a target or a surface. FrameGen gets updated technology and its own dedicated settings, and the Japanese version on Steam no longer censors blood and gore.

New Game Plus isn’t on the list, so anyone holding out for a second run with all their powers will have to keep waiting.

When and where

The Blood of Dawnwalker launched in early September on PS5, Xbox Series X|S and PC. Rebel Wolves hasn’t named a day for Update 1.1 yet, or said whether every platform gets it at the same time, so keep an eye on your downloads this week. If you’re still on the fence, it’s $69.99 on GOG, which is our pick for a DRM-free copy you keep, or on Steam.

A respec potion, an easier way in, and a pat for every dog in town. Not a bad week to go back to Vale Sangora.
