Survivor on a green motorbike overlooking a desert valley as a sandstorm approaches in DayZ Badlands

DayZ Badlands is out now on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation, and Bohemia Interactive calls it the largest expansion in the series. The paid add-on drops you into Nasdara, a new 267 km² desert province west of Chernarus, and it ships alongside free Update 1.30, which fully wipes every platform.

Nasdara, DayZ’s biggest terrain

Bohemia built Nasdara specifically for DayZ and says it is the largest terrain the team has ever made for the game. The arid spring map sits on Takistan’s western frontier, with oil fields, border crossings, Middle Eastern-style cities, and old military sites scattered across cracked earth and sand.

Heat and drought matter as much as the infected. Sandstorms roll through the province, and Bohemia lists new medical threats such as heatstroke and silicosis. Water is scarce, so you need it to stay hydrated, cool down, and rinse sand out of your eyes after a storm.

Rebuild, ride, and decode the radio

Shelter is not just found. Bohemia says nearly 5,000 rebuildable structures are scattered across Nasdara, including ruined houses, wells, and irrigation-tunnel entrances whose condition can differ from server to server. Fix a well for the whole community, or turn a wrecked house into a hideout with a secret way in.

Motorbikes arrive with Badlands and Update 1.30, including ragdoll physics when you wreck. They help cover Nasdara’s size, and they pair with a new radio loop: keep a personal radio handy for Morse-code transmissions that carry coordinates and access codes to urban bunkers under the map.

Regional loot matches the setting, from dust goggles and desert camouflage to firearms that run from a classic Lee-Enfield to modern SCR rifles. Wildlife includes mouflon, desert monitors, and territorial dogs that guard spots tied to their former owners, alongside region-specific infected.

Update 1.30 wipe and where to buy

Update 1.30 is free for the base game and brings motorbikes, select reworked firearms and assets, quality-of-life changes, and more to every map. Bohemia is clear that the update marks a fresh start, with a full wipe across all platforms. Patch notes are up for Steam and Xbox.

Badlands is downloadable content. You need DayZ first.

PC: DayZ is not on GOG.com, so there is no DRM-free storefront for it right now. Buy the expansion on Steam for $24.99 (about $22.49 with the 10% launch discount; Bohemia rounded that to about $22.50). Owners of the base game can also grab Badlands and the earlier Frostline expansion together in Steam’s Hot & Cool Bundle.

Xbox: DayZ Badlands is $24.99 on the Xbox Store for Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S (and on PC through Microsoft’s store).

PlayStation: The PlayStation Store listing is a $24.99 PS4 add-on. Like the base game, it is playable on PS5, though PlayStation notes that some PS4 features may be missing when you run it there. There is no separate native PS5 SKU.

The expansion is rated Mature for blood, strong language, and violence, in line with DayZ’s hardcore survival tone.

If Chernarus, Livonia, and Sakhal already feel mapped out, Nasdara is a fresh province with bikes, bunkers, and weather that can kill you as fast as another player. DayZ Badlands and the wiped Update 1.30 servers are live on Steam, Xbox, and PlayStation whenever you are ready to start clean.
