Frostpunk is finally coming to Nintendo Switch. 11 bit studios has set the survival city-builder for October 19, it will run on Switch 2 as well, and a free demo is already up on the eShop if you want to see how it plays on a controller before you commit.
Two versions, both discounted
The base game is $29.99, and pre-orders are sitting at $20.99 right now, a 30% cut. The Complete Edition lists at $45 and is down to $29.25 (35% off). That one adds all three expansions: The Rifts, The Last Autumn, and On The Edge. If you’re new to the game and already know you like it, the Complete Edition is the better value.
What Frostpunk actually is
You build and run the last city on a frozen Earth, kept going by steam-powered tech. Heat keeps people alive, so everything comes back to fuel, food, shelter, and how much your citizens trust you. You pass laws that shape daily life (work shifts, healthcare, food rules), research new tech, and send scouts out into the Frostlands for supplies and survivors. When the people are pushed to a breaking point, you pick the direction your society takes.
It’s a tough, moody strategy game, and the eShop lists it as rated M for Mature, so check that before you hand it to a younger player. There’s also an Endless mode for long sessions and a calmer Serenity mode if you just want to build.
Why the Switch version matters
Frostpunk launched on PC in 2018 and came to PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in 2019, then mobile in 2024. Nintendo players have been the odd ones out for years. The eShop lists TV, tabletop, and handheld play, and a city-builder that lives on decisions more than reflexes is a good fit for a portable. It’s also one more Switch 2 October release on a busy month.
Grab the demo first. If the keep-everyone-warm loop clicks for you, the launch price is the time to buy.
