Armored figure faces a glowing blue hexagonal opening under the Saros: Zenith title

The free Saros: Zenith update is out today on PS5, and Housemarque is packing it with a boss rush mode, a New Game+ loop, a stack of new modifiers and a few accessibility options that make the bullet ballet easier to live with. The PlayStation Blog post from design lead Abebe Tinari says every Saros owner gets it at no extra charge.

Overlord Rush

Overlord Rush is the new boss rush mode, opened from the Primary Unit back at Passage. You fight through Sets of Overlords in a training simulation, and your times go up on an integrated leaderboard. Incursion and Ascension each put three Overlords in front of you and are meant to run about 10 minutes. Totality lines up all eight in one continuous gauntlet. You can also filter the global board by Main Weapon, so there’s room to chase a top score with the gun you actually like.

Eclipse Layers and new modifiers

For anyone who already cleared Carcosa, Zenith adds Eclipse Layers, Housemarque’s take on New Game+. New nodes show up in the Armor Matrix after you finish the campaign, and those unlock the next Layer, a tougher pass with altered rules. Before you drop in, you pick a loadout of Carcosan Modifiers and have to clear a Trial threshold to start.

Zenith adds 10 new Protection Modifiers that make the run more forgiving, including Corruption Melee Enhancement, which lets a landed melee strike consume your built-up Corruption for one big burst of extra damage. The risk to your max Integrity is still there, but now it pays something back. It also adds 10 new Trial Modifiers for a harder ride, such as Hostile Regeneration, where bigger enemies only stay down if you finish them with a melee strike. Across the mode there are 25 Trials to mix and match.

While you’re in Eclipse Layers, Arjun wears a Crown that grows as you stack Trials and raise your Modifier Balance. That Crown is also how you find Visions, murals and messages from an ancient king that unlock more story text at higher Crown levels.

Slow it down, fire on its own, aim with motion

Zenith also opens the door for players who bounced off the difficulty. Slow Game Speed lets you dial the whole fight down so telegraphs and bullets are easier to read, either on an automatic combat toggle or when you flip it yourself. Auto-fire shoots for you while you’re aiming at a hostile, though perfect reloads still need a timed button press. Motion Sensor Aiming joins the existing remapping options, so you can tune how Saros feels in your hands without sanding the combat down.

Download and jump back in

The update is live now on PS5, and you can find more PS5 news on our PlayStation hub. Push Square clocks the download at about 3.5 GB. Overlord Rush leaderboards need an internet connection and a PlayStation account.

If you put Saros down after the credits, Zenith is a clean reason to open Passage again: a short boss snack, a longer New Game+ climb, or just a softer on-ramp if the bullet ballet was too loud the first time.
