The Wraith surfs a breaking wave on a glowing sword while red fish leap alongside in Sword of the Sea

Sword of the Sea Switch 2 and Xbox Series X|S versions came out October 29, a little over a year after Giant Squid’s surfing adventure launched on PS5 and PC. Publisher Fictions announced both ports during Nintendo’s Indie World Showcase, and the Switch 2 version is $23.99 on a US eShop launch sale (normally $29.99), matching Xbox, while Steam and PS5 stay at $29.99.

What kind of game it is

You play the Wraith, brought back to life in a desert necropolis with one job: bring back an ocean buried under the sand. You get around on the Hoversword, a sword you ride like a snowboard, skateboard, and surfboard at once, carving down dunes, catching air off waves, and grinding through ruins built like skateparks. As you go, the sand turns back into water and the sea life returns.

It comes from the same creative pair as Journey, ABZU, and The Pathless. Matt Nava is the creative director and Austin Wintory wrote the music.

What you get on each console

On Switch 2, it supports TV, tabletop, and handheld play. On Xbox, the store lists 4K, 60 FPS, and Optimized for Xbox Series X|S, along with achievements and cloud saves. It’s single player on both.

The Xbox version unlocked at 9am PT on October 29.

Sword of the Sea isn’t on GOG, so on PC your choice is Steam or the Epic Games Store. If you already own it on PS5 or PC, nothing here changes for you. The new versions bring it to Nintendo and Xbox players for the first time, and the Switch 2 version also runs in handheld mode.
