Mycopunk 1.0 is out today, so Pigeons at Play’s co-op fungus shooter leaves Early Access on Steam and makes its console debut on PS5. The PS5 version unlocks at 10am PT (1pm ET) per the PlayStation Store, and it’s in the PlayStation Plus Game Catalog for Extra and Premium members from day one. On PC it’s still $14.99 on Steam as of this morning. Devolver hasn’t announced a standalone PS5 price yet, and the PlayStation Store listing showed none ahead of the unlock.

The Mycologist joins the crew

The biggest addition is the first new employee since launch, the Mycologist. Pigeons at Play’s pitch is basically “what if someone got fungussed, and lived?” She’s built around the Infection mechanic, which started as a generic debuff and now works as a resource she manages for upgrade synergies. The studio says she comes with versions of most of the event skins, so she doesn’t feel like the new kid with an empty closet.

A moon for the veterans

1.0 also opens X11-B, New Atlas’ moon. It’s a separate region on its own little moonlet, and the devs say it’s there to keep long-time players on their toes, with its own mechanics and look. More regions are planned for post-launch updates.

A new gun, a cold grenade and a lot of tuning

The Diffraction Driver is the new weapon. By default it’s a wide-cone shotgun, and holding alt-fire spins up its halo to tighten the spread and add range, which puts it somewhere between the Jackrabbit and the Carver. The Snowball Grenade brings cryo to grenades, and it’s more about crowd control than raw damage. One of its upgrades lets you roll it downhill so it grows like a cartoon snowball.

Beyond the new toys, 1.0 is a big balance pass. A lot of the weaker upgrades got buffed to make them worth slotting, there are new Epic and Exotic upgrades like Subzero Energy for the Cycler and Plasma Arc for the Trident, and several grenades picked up new turbocharges (two of them got renamed, Voltaic and Caustic). Upgrade infusion changes too. Most upgrade stats now scale with the size of the pattern you infuse, so shrinking an upgrade costs you something and stretching one out pays off.

Where to play

On PC, Mycopunk isn’t on GOG, so Steam is the store, and if you already own it there, 1.0 comes down as an update to the copy you have. Pigeons at Play hasn’t given an exact time for the Steam update. On PS5, PlayStation Plus Extra and Premium members can grab it from the Game Catalog, which we rounded up in our PlayStation Plus October lineup. Online co-op for up to four players needs PS Plus on PS5. Devolver and Pigeons at Play haven’t said whether PS5 and Steam players can team up, so for now plan on squadding up on the same platform. There’s also an optional Supporter Pack DLC with chrome skins for each employee, new reload animations and two exotic skins that give Glider and Scrapper new character models. It’s purely cosmetic and meant as a way to support the studio, and its price hasn’t been announced yet.

Grab three friends, pick the new fungus lady, and go see what’s living on that moon.
