An airship flies over a green island and blue sea in Final Fantasy Resonance

The new Xbox games this week are headlined by two very different heavy hitters, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 on October 23 and Square Enix’s Final Fantasy Resonance on October 22, with a solid run of smaller releases filling in the days around them. Here’s what’s landing on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC from Monday, October 19 through Friday, October 23, based on Xbox Wire’s weekly schedule.

Final Fantasy Resonance (October 22)

Final Fantasy Resonance is the first Final Fantasy built in the HD-2D style Square Enix used for Octopath Traveler and the Dragon Quest remakes, pairing pixel art characters with 3D environments and a camera that moves around them. Xbox Wire promises a classic RPG adventure full of series staples like airships, crystals, espers and moogles. It’s $49.99 and supports Xbox Play Anywhere, so one purchase covers your console and Windows PC. It’s also on Steam at the same price, where a free demo covers the opening through the end of Chapter 1 and carries your save into the full game.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 (October 23)

Modern Warfare 4 launches worldwide on October 23 at $69.99 with Xbox Play Anywhere support. Digital pre-orders have had Campaign Early Access since October 16, and DMZ Early Access opens to those same pre-orders on Tuesday, October 20. The thing to keep in mind on Xbox is that this one is a standalone purchase and isn’t coming to Game Pass until Holiday 2027, which we broke down in our Modern Warfare 4 early access story.

Other games worth a look

Shoresy: Legends of the North (October 19, $14.99). A hockey RPG set in the world of the Shoresy TV series. You build a skater, join the Sudbury Blueberry Bulldogs, and take on the Hockey Godz, or play head to head with friends.

Hail to the Rainbow (October 20, $14.99). A first-person, story-driven adventure with horror and shooter elements. Xbox Wire shows a $11.99 pre-order price and a free trial, and it supports Smart Delivery and Play Anywhere.

We Were Here Tomorrow (October 20). The latest in the two-player co-op puzzle series, this time trapping you and a partner in a research facility under the Antarctic ice.

Dreadway (October 22). Online co-op survival horror for up to four players, with crafting, proximity voice chat and interactions driven by your voice.

Moadra (October 22). A big interconnected exploration game on a desert planet, with tough combat, puzzles and abilities that open new paths. Play Anywhere is supported.

Warrior Cats: Clans of the Forest (October 22, $29.99). An action adventure based on the Warrior Cats books, with Clan quests and turn-based fights.

Entwined: Strings of Deception (October 22). A murder mystery where you question suspects, compare their stories and catch the contradictions.

Carry The Glass (October 23). A two-player co-op platformer about getting a pane of glass across each level without breaking it. Play Anywhere is supported.

House 2 and FIRE AND ASHES (October 23). Two horror releases on the same day, one a sequel to the 2020 game House and the other set in a 1970s psychiatric hospital.

The Walking Trade (October 23, $11.99). A shop management game set in a zombie apocalypse, with a $10.79 pre-order price on Xbox and Play Anywhere support.

The rest of the week is made up of smaller releases, from puzzle and hidden-object games to platformers and a creature-evolution action game, including Candlemates, CyberBot: Zero, Spray Trace, Tidy Up the Flower Shop, Omni Growth, Railroad Swap, Seahorse Soap Patrol and Vixen 357.

Plan your week

If you’re only buying one thing, it probably comes down to whether you’re in the mood for a big military shooter or a turn-based RPG, and Final Fantasy Resonance’s Steam demo is an easy way to test the second option before Thursday. For more, see our Xbox and PC hubs. Release dates can still move, so it’s worth checking the Xbox Store listing before launch day, but either way it’s a busy week to have your controller charged.
