Resonance of Fate Enhanced Remaster is out now on PS5 and Steam, and owners of the 2018 4K/HD Edition on Steam pay $9.99 to upgrade. New players on PS5 pay $34.99. Steam sells the remaster only as DLC for the 4K/HD Edition, so someone starting fresh on PC pays $34.99 for the base game plus $9.99 for the upgrade.
Gematsu reports that PS4 owners of the 4K/HD Edition can also move up to the PS5 version for $9.99. tri-Ace’s own release lists only the Steam upgrade price.
This is the third release of tri-Ace’s 2010 gun-action RPG, after the 2018 4K/HD Edition. Like The Wolf Among Us Remastered, it charges less to people who bought the last version.
What the Enhanced Remaster changes
tri-Ace upscaled the textures for towns and characters and added a decimation filter in the settings that sharpens fine detail like hair. The Steam listing also adds native 4K output, HDR and 120fps support.
The new 2x Game Speed option doubles the speed of field exploration, battles and story events.
The story and battle system are the same 2010 game. You still run Zephyr, Vashyron and Leanne through gun battles built around Hero Action, and the soundtrack is still by Kohei Tanaka and Motoi Sakuraba. It’s single player, rated T by the ESRB and PEGI 16, and digital only.
What it costs
| Where | New player | 4K/HD Edition owner |
|---|---|---|
| PS5 (PlayStation Store) | $34.99 | $9.99 upgrade from PS4 (per Gematsu) |
| Steam | $34.99 base game plus $9.99 DLC | $9.99 DLC |
| GOG | Not sold | n/a |
In Europe, tri-Ace lists the PS5 version at €34.99 and the Steam upgrade DLC at €10.25.
On PC
Steam lists the Enhanced Remaster as DLC that requires the 4K/HD Edition on the same Steam account. The store page lists Windows 11 as the minimum OS and 90 GB of free space. The minimum GPU is a GeForce GTX 650 Ti or Radeon HD 7770 for 720p, and tri-Ace recommends a GTX 1070 or RX 5600 XT for 4K.
Upgrade or buy new
For 4K/HD Edition owners, $9.99 buys 2x Game Speed, the upscaled textures and the new display options. The story and battles are unchanged. For new players, PS5 is $34.99 flat, about $10 less than the $44.98 for both pieces on Steam. Resonance of Fate isn’t on GOG, so Steam is the only PC store for now.
