A rifle opens fire as an explosion rips through an orange-lit corridor in Selaco

Selaco Machines of War, the game’s long-promised Chapter 2, arrives November 13 as a free update with 19 new maps, new weapons and enemy AI rewritten almost entirely from scratch. Altered Orbit Studios says it has been in the works for over two years. There’s one catch you need to plan around now: your current save won’t survive it.

19 New Maps and About 6 to 8 More Hours

Altered Orbit’s Steam announcement on October 30 lays out the size of it. Chapter 2 adds 19 campaign maps, which the team pegs at roughly 6 to 8 hours. The story picks up with more voiced characters, including Dawn herself, and the pace changes, because an unstoppable machine spends the chapter hunting you.

For part of the chapter, Dawn also gets a companion fighting next to her. If you’d rather go solo, you can tell them to stay put.

The original campaign isn’t left alone either. Chapter 1 gets a full remaster pass with better lighting, reworked setpieces and some new surprises, so a fresh start from level one is part of the deal.

A Minigun, a Jetpack and Rewritten Enemy AI

The new toys, by the studio’s own count:

  1. A Minigun
  2. A Heavy Machine Gun that fires literal explosions
  3. A jetpack
  4. A Heavy Ordnance System that lets you grab a big weapon off the battlefield and ditch it when it runs dry
  5. Deployables including Sentinel Drones, Mini-Turrets and Mobile Cover
  6. New Weapon Kits such as Dragon’s Breath, Storm Shield and Cluster Grenades
  7. Supplements, passive upgrades for late-game combat and exploration

You’ll be using all of that against Skirmishers, Tanks, Incinerators and more. The bigger change is how enemies think. Altered Orbit says the new AI brings smarter tactics, better pathing and a new Rally system. Enemies also patrol their turf now, so you can sneak around and pick when a fight starts instead of walking into ambush after ambush. Luis Bermudez is back as the voice of the enemy soldiers, with a big batch of new callouts.

Under the hood, Chapter 2 brings baked lighting and shadows, a second pass on the particle system and asset streaming. The studio says general VRAM use drops 19 percent.

Missed Weapon Kits Are No Longer Gone for Good

A few quality-of-life changes fix things that bugged Chapter 1 players. If you miss a Weapon Kit, you can now buy it in a Safe Room instead of losing it forever (ultra-secret kits excluded). Each weapon can carry two kits at once, and you can swap between them mid-fight.

Secrets no longer count toward 100 percent completion. Now 100 percent means Upgrades, Weapon Kits and Datapads, and anyone who liked the old hunt can turn on the optional Completionist mutator. Mutators can also be changed mid-run in Safe Rooms, and the new Chapter 2 music gets added free to the soundtrack DLC.

Old Saves Won’t Carry Over to Chapter 2

This is the part to act on before November 13. Because the update is so big, existing saves won’t work with it. Altered Orbit gives you three ways to handle that:

  • Finish your current run before November 13.
  • After the update, roll back to the old build through Steam: right-click Selaco, open Properties, then Betas, and pick CHAPTER1. Finish there, then switch back.
  • Pause your run and start fresh on the new version.

If you already beat the original campaign, you can jump straight to the Chapter 2 levels, though the studio recommends starting over because the remastered levels set up the new ones. Your Weapon Kit unlocks stay unlocked either way.

A GTX 970 and 6 GB of RAM Still Get You In

Selaco isn’t on GOG, so Steam is the store. There are no console versions announced. Altered Orbit notes an SSD is highly recommended and that requirements may change, and the Linux build lists the same hardware.

Full patch notes and a trailer land with the update. Like Mycopunk’s run to 1.0, it’s a big Early Access milestone, and owners get this one for nothing. Wrap up your Chapter 1 run before November 13 and you’ll be ready to start the new chapter on day one.
