Nintendo UK has announced the WiiWare Channel, aiming to provide developers both small and large to distribute titles to Nintendo Wii owners. Unfortunately the service will not be launching until early 2008.

Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Amie has commented that WiiWare will be a little to no risk way for small developers to try new game ideas on the Nintendo Wii. He also mentioned: “Independent developers armed with small budgets and big ideas will be able to get their original games into the marketplace to see if we can find the next smash hit. WiiWare brings new levels of creativity and value to the ever-growing population of Wii owners.”

WiiWare titles will be purchased in the Wii Shop Channel with points, just like Virtual Console games.

More details about the new WiiWare channel will be announced at a later date.
